PICKED UP BY AN ITALIAN IN AUSTRIA
Salzburg, Austria
Sat, June 26
We took ourselves easy today, since Sar only got in the night before from USA. We decided that since we were in Salzburg, it is only right to try and have a taste to The Sound of Music Family House. We headed to Leopoldskron by bus, and where we got off didn't look like anything but suburban houses. Nice ones for that matter. We just kinda walked and hoping that we were in the right place.
Not too long after, we saw this huge lake with a great mansion hovering across. It is the house where Maria lured the Von Trapp Family with her music. It is The Sound of Music House. Yay!! We were soo excited. We took photos and Sar was humming the tune. And we were getting really hungry. We went into an italian cafe by the lake overlooking the house. We hung out there for a while. When I went to the toile, our charming Italian waiter asked for my name and invited me to come again around 10pm that night for a drink. This was all said in broken English and a mixture of Italian and German. He asked me for my name and when I asked for his, he reached for my right hand, kissed it and sad, "Antonio".
If he wasn't Italian he wouldn't be able to pull it off.
That was sooo good for a girl's self esteem though. Hahaha...
The thing is, he could't speak English. We have absolutely no chance of striking a conversation and if we can't talk, guess what will we do. And yes, he seemed like an adult. No more explanation.
The rest of the day was spent hanging out at the Salzburg Castle. It was good but the L'Alhambra was still so much better so I wasn't overly impressed. It was more coffee and drinks and soon we found ourselves in the hostel to taste an authentic Austrian dishes from our hostel's restaurant.
The meal was divine. I think I had some turkey with cream sauce, and Sar had some pork snietzchel with cranberry sauce and it was delicious.
Jazz It was the name of the jazz bar we went to after dinner. Situated in a rather unconvincing area, it was one cool venue. It has an outside bar/cafe and the bar itself was in the basement of the building where you have another bar then a closed off venue with another bar. The cover charge was quite high and we nearly missed out on the first act. The crowd was great and there were lots of talented young jazz musicians and we had an absolute ball that we discarded out plans to go the Ice Caves of Werfen and didn't get back until 3am
Jazz in the house, nothing a good music can't cure...
